Applications are now open for a funded PhD Research Scholarship in Language and Communication Studies: ‘Mutual adaptation of refugees and the host society: building resilient communities through trauma-informed informal language learning and story-telling practice’.

The Centre for Language and Communication Studies in Trinity College Dublin is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and outstanding researcher for a fully funded PhD Research Scholarship focusing on building resilient communities through trauma-informed informal language learning and story-telling practice with refugees. This four-year doctoral research scholarship is part of the ‘Refugee-Thrive’ project funded by the Trinity Research Doctorate Award Group Based Projects scheme and includes a maintenance stipend of €25,000 per annum plus full tuition fees (EU/non-EU).

The successful candidate will be co-supervised by the P.I. Dr Bronagh Ćatibušić from the School of Linguistic, Speech and Communication Sciences and Dr Paul Delaney from the School of English. This interdisciplinary project combining linguistics, literature, education, and cultural studies will explore how language learning in informal educational environments can nurture inclusive, multilingual and culturally diverse communities. It will investigate how trauma-informed, participatory approaches to language learning and story-telling practice may enhance the resilience and agency of refugees.
